Reclaiming Nick

By Susan May Warren

(I'm going to have to negotiate with blogger to let me put up a pic of this cover. WOW! What a cover!)

Nick Noble hadn't planned on being the prodigal son.
But when his father dies and leaves half the Silver Buckle--the Noble family ranch--to Nick's former best friend, he returns home to face his mistakes...and to guarentee that the ranch stays in the Noble family.

Award-winning journalist Piper Sullivan believes Nick framed her brother for murder, and she's determined to find justice. But following Nick to the Silver Buckle and posing as a ranch cook proves more challenging than she thinks. So does resisting his charming smile.

As Nick seeks to overturn his father's will--and Piper digs for answers--family secrets surface that send Nick's life into a tailspin. But there's someone else who wants to take the Silver Buckle from the Noble family, and he'll stop at nothing--even murder--to make it happen.

Pammer here: Wow, this book is awesome. I loved the characters. They were so real. I loved Nick and Piper, Cole, CJ and Maggie, and well the Nobles as well. The story is not only gripping, it was touching too. I would recommend this book to anyone, no matter their preferred genre.

Here is a short interview with Susan May Warren:

Hi Susan, it's great to have you here today. I'm so thrilled with this new series of books you've come out with. Tell me, who is that gorgeous guy on the front cover of Reclaiming Nick? Where you expecting such success with that cover?

Thank you for having me, Pam! I’m having so much fun on this tour – so fun to “show Nick off” *VBG*. And of course, it’s NICK on the cover…such a cutie, huh? I was so proud of Tyndale for really grasping my concept with this series, and making it so strongly character driven. I think we all love stories where the character comes to life and stays with us, and that’s what I am hoping to do with all three books in this series. Nick returns in his brother’s book (Taming Rafe) and also in his sister’s book (Finding Stefanie).

As always, you have wonderful characters, so real and complicated. I love Nick and Piper and well, all of them. Granted, I wanted to shake their teeth loose on occasion, but that just makes them seem all the more real. Is there anything special you do to create such wonderful, vivid, and well-rounded characters?

Thank you – I love Nick and Piper, and Maggy and Cole. I really work on getting to know my characters before I start writing them – from their quirks to their mannerisms, to greatest dreams and greatest desires. I really start with character before I begin plotting and the plot grows from there. Also, I have a technique I use called “layering” that helps me both build a character and then peel back their layers slowing through the story that I thinks helps readers get to know them.

I know you've wanted to be a cowgirl all your life and I empathize with your love of all things cowboyish. What made you chose Montana ?

Montana, with its big sky and rolling hills and mountains and streams and legends? Hmmm….no, seriously, Montana always held a certain mystique for me, maybe because of its size (it really is a big state), and the ranching stereotype that surrounds it. I love Montana – my parents live there, and there is so much material to write about in Montana – from ranching to the wildfire fighters to the folks who work in Glacier National Park . And there is nothing like sitting out under the big sky (and it is really big – you’d be surprised at how it stretches from one end of the horizon to the other like no other place), to really get a glimpse at how awesome and big God is. It’s something to just drink in and savor.

How many books are there in this series? When is the next one due out? (It's really hard to wait.)

The next book out (Fall 2007) is Taming Rafe—the story of a broken bull-rider, and the unlikely NYC society girl who changes his life. It’s a multi-layered romance, with suspense, of course, and lots of good Montana ranching in the background. We also see Nick and Piper, and a few other characters from Nick. I’m just finishing it now, and can’t wait for everyone to Meet Rafe! *g*

One more question. As writers we always leave the footprints of our souls on our books (when we write Christian fiction), but what is the take away message you wanted to leave the readers with in this story?

That God doesn’t give up on us. Phil 1:6 – He who began a good work in you is faithful to complete it – if you are a prodigal, God is calling you back to your legacy – your noble legacy as a child of the King. And, regardless of how far you’ve strayed, there is forgiveness and redemption – and hope. He isn’t done with any of us yet. *g*

Susan, it's always wonderful to have you here, I hope you can come back when the next one in this series comes out called Taming Rafe. Thank you for coming.

Thank you for letting me stop by introduce you to Nick! If you want to read more, and Meet Nick, go to http://meetnick.susanmaywarren.com

Have a blessed day!

Generation NeXt Parenting

by Tricia Goyer

I found this book to be, not your normal run of the mill, how to parenting book. Instead it was full of useful advice, tips and stories in a format and language that I totally understand, because...well, Tricia and I....we grew up in the same era.

The book is divided up into sections so even someone like me who has either the attention span of a gnat or the memory of an elephant, can find what she needs, get the info, and get on with life. Not to mention it's full of cool trivia that I found positively fascinating.

If your looking for a book that will actually take your parenting to the next level? Get this book. Once I divulge to my kids where I got all these fabulous hints on parenting, their are probably going to email Tricia and thank her personally, and then get a book of their own for when they have children. :)

Great job Tricia.

Men and bikes

This is me on a bike for the first time in.....well, more years than I care to admit. :) Okay, so I was in a wreck on one and I look more like a cat that is about to get a bath. I was trying to get settled before we took off. Next time (yes there will be a next time) I'll look more relaxed, I'm sure.

Nice bike, though, eh?
