Christmas Eve Memories

As usual on Christmas Eve, there are a million last minute details to see to. The business end of Christmas. Wonderful memories can be the result of some thoughtful person's planning. My kids are older so we don't get the same feeling of anticipation that we got when we were younger, or when the kids were little.

I just opened my door and the sleet and ice switched over to snow. Blizzard conditions. I mean, some of those snowflakes are as big as snowballs. Thankfully they're also soft. :) No concussions.

Have you ever noticed when it snows, it's always so quiet? I love to watch it snow. Especially that beautiful sparkling snow that looks like God tossed a handful of glitter into the snow mix. I think the snow should cause us to stop and listen for God's voice. Time for us to take stock and thank God for all blessings.

When I was a child, we usually had a white Christmas. In my early years, I remember many Christmases at Aunt Ann's house. The more aunts, uncles, and cousins who joined us the better! The house would be packed to the rafters and the adults sure seemed to enjoy themselves, but not near as much as us kids. Those are some of my fondest Christmas memories as a child.

When we moved to Thayer, we didn't do as much traveling. But Aunt Lorene lived just down the street and we'd go over there for a day of celebration. You know, I can't remember presents, but I do remember the family time, wonderful dinners, delightful conversation (Aunt Lorene had a special knack of understanding that my mind ran as fast as a freight train with no brakes). I felt warm, loved, and cherished this time.

For us, our finances have never been to die for, lol, so Christmas has never been about presents. It's a focus on families and those in need. The gift that God gave us and sharing the beauty of that gift with the hurting and lonely in the world.

I desperately wanted a white Christmas this year. And here it is. Every white Christmas reminds me of home. Both in the physical sense of what my parents represented, and my eternal home with God.

So on this busy day, dealing with the last minute must-do's, take just a few moments to focus on what this time of year really means.

Have a safe, wonderful, and blessed Christmas!
