My youngest son is extremely independent. Always has been. As a child he would push my hands away and say, "No! Me do! Me do!"
As a baby and toddler this trait frustrated me, though it also amused me. As he got older it amused me less. Now as an "adult" it really drives me nuts. I turned to my husband once, after a phone call to my son and said, "He's so independent. Where did he get that trait? UGH!" My husband looked at me and said, "You're kidding, right?"
Shadow came by his independence honestly. I didn't see my stubbornness as the same thing. But it is. My husband said one thing he loved about me is that I'm a go getter. But sometimes I am so stubborn and persistent I don't know when to stop.
Ask for help? It's so hard for me to ask for help from anyone. I think this is a pride issue and I really need to work on it. It does carry over into my spiritual life.
I also tend to shut people out when they disappoint me or hurt me. I give lots of chances but with each hurt or "slap" I shut the gates a little more. Soon it is just me closing down all the gates and locking them down. This also carries over into my spiritual life as well.
How often do we ask God for help and then go ahead and do what we think needs to be done. How often do we NOT ask God for help because we are afraid He will give us what we NEED not what we WANT. How often do we question God's motives and wisdom when a decision comes in that we do not understand or want.
Why is it we are so unwilling to give it ALL to God. God and His infinite wisdom? Do we ever doubt His wisdom or His willingness to do what is best for us? If we look with an eye on treasure on earth, we very well may wonder where He is going. But if we look with an eye on treasure in heaven, some things will become clear while some will not. Some things are meant to remain a mystery.
I think we need to humble ourselves and give it all, all of ourselves and every facet of our lives, over to God and trust His grace and mercy and unfailing love for us. Believe Him as well as believing IN Him. We need to take His hand and let Him lead us and there is where we find true freedom.
Many of you have already found salvation and handed your life over. I invite you to now rededicate your life to God. ALL of your life. See what a wondrous team you and your Father can make. But you have to let Him do the leading. He's tall enough to see the road and you are not.
Go ahead step out in faith and see where the path takes you.
Have a blessed week!
